Ski resort in Summer - Yeah!

Summertime is finally upon us. Before the dog days of July and August get here, it's a good idea to take that couples or family vacation. Most people I know hop in the car and head to the beach, or in general head south. I'm in Atlanta, so heading south is really SOUTH.

In my opinion, that may not be your 'best" choice for vacationing. You see, I tend to do the opposite of what the crowd does. This is what the informed traveler does. For example, during the summer, Cruise Ships in Florida are at full capacity as families try to get that long weekend out of the way. Rates for rental cars and hotels with close proximity to ports sky-rocket.

Not a great use of your vacation dollar is it?

Use this rule of thumb and you'll always save money on your vacation, and have less crowds.

*When kids are out of school, stay away from Family vacation centers,(i.e., Anaheim California, Orlando Florida).

* Go to season specific areas in the off-season. I travel to Hawaii during the summer. The temperature rises to about 83 degrees (versus 77 during the winter). Believe me, I can deal with that. Florida hotel rates drop dramatically after school starts, and it's still warm in central Florida. So take the kids out of school for one or two days. It wont be the end of the world.

*Finally, folks, go to Las Vegas during the middle of the week! We've al heard the stories of $25 hotel rooms in Las Vegas. Well, you'll only find that during the middle of the week, on an off-convention week. Not sure when the conventions happen? Go to www.visitvegas.com for convention and event schedules.

Happy vacationing this summer.
